A Night of Chamber Music Magic
Beethoven, Mozart, Puccini!
The Glacier Quartet performs three of the most exciting string quartets ever written.

The Glacier Quartet, a Homer-based string ensemble, is comprised of top professional Alaskan musicians dedicated to performing the world’s greatest quartet repertoire. Historically, the great composers used the medium of the string quartet to develop their most innovative ideas.

This performance features Beethoven’s opus 131 and Mozart’s K387 “Spring” quartets as well as Puccini’s short work “Chrisantemi” or Chrysanthemums. Beethoven’s final compositions before his death in 1827 were his “late quartets”, written after his Ninth Symphony. Some of his ideas in these quartets were a century ahead of their time. Mozart’s “Spring” quartet was written in recognition of the innovative writing of Haydn’s opus 33. Haydn and Mozart were friends and had great respect for each other. Puccini wrote “Chrsiantemi” from his heartfelt loss at the death of Amando I of Spain. White chrysanthemums are used in Italy only for funerals or to be placed on graves.

Beer and Wine sales for the evening’s event go directly to the non-profit Homer Opus.

Those under 21 who wish to attend may do so if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
