The Glacier Quartet will present three distinctive string quartets, each reflecting a unique national character and illustrating the evolution of the string quartet into the twentieth century. The program includes Franz Schubert’s Quartettsatz, Leoš Janáček’s First String Quartet (The Kreutzer), inspired by Tolstoy’s novella The Kreutzer Sonata, and Maurice Ravel’s masterful impressionistic string quartet, dedicated to his teacher Gabriel Fauré. These works are both technically demanding and rarely performed, making this live concert a special opportunity to hear them in Homer.
